Kaiser-Therme Bad Abbach Searches for Private Investor
(eap) It has been clear for some time that the 30-year-old Kaiser-Therme in the health resort of Bad Abbach in the district of Kelheim needs to be renovated. Recently, Dr. Benedikt Grünewald, mayor of the Lower Bavarian town, commented on the future of the thermal bath. The sum required for the renovation is around 50 million euros. Of this, the market town of Bad Abbach and the district of Kelheim – which each own 20 percent of the thermal baths – would each have to raise around 10 million euros and the district of Lower Bavaria – which owns 60 percent of the thermal baths –around 30 million euros.
Due to other high investment costs for the renovation of an elementary school and the construction of fire stations, as well as the fact that the thermal bath makes an average annual deficit of around 1.5 million euros, the municipalities have decided to give up the operation of the facility and look for a private investor. The thermal bath is to be sold within the next two years – until then, the spa will still be operated and advertised as before.
The Kaiser-Therme has a swimming and relaxation pool as well as a wild water channel and a 1,000 square meter sauna area with various sauna chambers, lounging facilities, a salt grotto and a sauna garden. A bistro and various wellness and therapy treatments round off the offer at the thermal bath in Bad Abbach. ■
