Kennywood in Pittsburgh Celebrates 125th Anniversary and Opens New Spinvasion Alien Ride
The Kennywood amusement park, located in Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania), is already celebrating its 125th anniversary this year! The park will start into its anniversary season on April 22. In addition to numerous beautification works on attractions and in the park itself, there will also be a new ride this season (scheduled opening: Memorial Day weekend end of May), which visitors can already look forward to: “Spinvasion”, which will be located in the new themed area “412” together with the renewed attraction “Cosmic Chaos”. Spinvasion is a thrill ride of the Gryphon type from the product portfolio of the Italian manufacturer Zamperla, from which the Disk’O Coaster Cosmic Chaos already originated. The nearby “Cosmic Gift Shop” was also overhauled and is now part of the new area. For the design of the newly created themed area around the intergalactic adventure, the Illinois-based company L3DFX was brought on board, which specializes in the design and build of theming elements, props, structures, immersive environments and interactive experiences.
“Spinavision is a first of its kind attraction, which offers our guests something they can’t get at any other park in the country,” says Kennywood General Manager Mark Pauls. “This extra-terrestrial thrill ride is the centerpiece of the all-new alien-inspired Area 412 section of the park. Featuring a massive themed ride backdrop, along with a fresh new look to the Cosmic Chaos and an improved retail shop, this is one giant leap for all Kennywood fans and Season Passholders.” (eap)
