Maurer Rides Obtains B Corp Certification
(eap) Maurer Rides has become the first roller coaster manufacturer in the world to receive the “B Corp” certification, the company has announced. The certification underlines the company’s strong commitment to social responsibility, environmental awareness and sustainable corporate management.
The B Corp certification is awarded by the global non-profit B Lab network, which refers to constantly reviewed standards in the areas of social responsibility, environmental friendliness, transparency and corporate governance and verifies in a process whether an applicant company meets these standards. B Lab states that there are currently over 9,000 B Corp-certified companies worldwide, including just over a hundred in Germany.
Maurer Rides CEO Jörg Beutler
“We opted for the B Corp certification in order to better structure our diverse sustainability efforts and identify further potential for improvement. Sustainability is a personal concern of mine and I am convinced that we all benefit from it: our company and our employees, our customers and the society,” says Jörg Beutler, Managing Director of Maurer Rides.
With the B Corp certification, the roller coaster manufacturer from Munich wants to set an example for the future in the amusement park industry. The manufacture of rides is associated with a high consumption of resources. Maurer Rides has committed itself to continuously improving its environmental footprint – be it through sustainable material procurement, energy-efficient products or material-saving constructions.
Not only suppliers, but also theme parks and other attractions are making efforts to achieve greater sustainability in order to be able to continue to operate successfully in the future. Spain’s PortAventura World, for example, is also showing a high commitment to sustainability efforts and became a B Corp-certified company in 2023 (c.f. EAP news 16 May 2023).
