(eap) The Tampa, Florida-based Florida Aquarium completed the first development phase of its approximately UDS 40 million (some EUR 37 million) investment plan this summer with the opening of its new “Morph’d” experience gallery. Developed in close collaboration with Orlando-based brand & experience design firm IDEAS, the gallery concept, which occupies more than 3,700 square feet (340 square meters) within the visitor aquarium, is dedicated to the exciting theme of the evolutionary adaptation of species to different habitats. There are 18 different animal species on display, with live specimens – including of the axolotl, paddlefish and chameleon species – to marvel at, as well as interactive info stations based on multimedia technology for visitors to use. Hands-on features include a VR periscope (a viewing tube equipped with VR technology) through which visitors can perceive the world through the eyes of a four-eyed fish.

Other projects the Florida Aquarium is implementing as part of its investment plan for the next two years include the creation of a two-story animal facility for puffins and a new spacious outdoor pavilion for California sea lions. The latter will also provide a habitat for African penguins. In 2022, the 27-year-old zoological adventure facility on Florida’s west coast saw a new visitor record welcoming almost 925,000 visitors. ■
