(eap) People can now virtually step into the shoes of ski jumping legends in Hinterzarten in the Black Forest. With “Skisprung Hinterzarten VR”, they can enjoy a new VR experience developed by Europa-Park and its subsidiary VR Coaster in collaboration with the Schwarzwald Ski Museum.

Based on the idea of Europa-Park owner Roland Mack and the former mayor of Kirchzarten Hansjörg Eckert, jumps were recorded in September using a camera mounted on the helmet of a ski jumper. The final application was created in the Unity development environment, which is particularly well known for interactive 3D and VR applications. In an experience lasting around three minutes, visitors now have the chance to complete two jumps in the Adler Ski Stadium – the ski jump is the smallest large ski-jumping hill in the world and a frequent venue for international competitions. The videos are displayed on the “PICO G3” VR goggles, which were specially designed for immersive applications. The jumps are also visualized with additional information such as speed and jump distance. Virtual ski jumping can be experienced in the Adler Ski Stadium and the Schwarzwald Ski Museum. ■
