(eap) A new Sandbox VR location opened last weekend in the Q6 Q7 center in Mannheim’s (South Germany) city centre. Up to six people can immerse themselves in Virtual Reality (VR) games together in one room, for which they are equipped with a VR headset, a haptic vest and motion sensors. The combination of full body motion capture and VR technologies allows players to move freely around the room.

“With Sandbox VR, we are focusing on an innovative entertainment offering that strengthens Q 6 Q 7’s position as a ‘place to be’ for people in Mannheim and the entire Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Our guests expect more than just shopping – they are looking for experiences that go beyond the traditional shopping trip. This is exactly where we come in and offer a unique experience with Sandbox VR, which combines technology and entertainment in an impressive way. Q 6 Q 7 stands for creative and future-oriented concepts that clearly stand out from conventional offerings. Sandbox VR underlines this! We are delighted to keep surprising people with new highlights like this,” emphasizes Hendrik Hoffmann, Q 6 Q 7 CEO and Managing Director of CRM – Center & Retail Management GmbH, which operates Q 6 Q 7.

Players can currently choose from eight different games, ranging from a fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic zombie world to fantasy adventures and a colourful pirate world. Another highlight is the game “Squid Game Virtuals”, produced in collaboration with the streaming provider Netflix, in which players compete against each other in mini-games. Furthermore, two new titles are set to be released this year. “We are delighted to now be able to offer these fantastic virtual worlds in Baden-Württemberg. From Saturday, four holodecks – as the virtual experience rooms are called – will be available for all experiences in Q 6 Q 7 in Mannheim,” explains Torsten Schneider, Managing Director of the Sandbox VR franchisee NextLevel Erlebnisse.

“With the opening of Sandbox VR, the operator in Mannheim wants to set a new benchmark for future-oriented technologies and immersive experiences. This exciting project will be the first of its kind in Baden-Württemberg to show how technological innovation and cultural experiences can be combined in a unique way,” says Mannheim’s Mayor for Economic and Cultural Affairs Thorsten Riehle. “As a business location, we benefit from modern technologies and creative offerings. This is a wonderful addition to our creative portfolio and I wish Sandbox VR a good start and long-term success.”

In addition to the new location in Mannheim, SandboxVR has further expansion plans in Germany. Locations in Berlin (East Side Mall), Hamburg (Überseeboulevard) and Oberhausen (near the CentrO) are set to follow soon. ■
