(eap) A new, modern indoor swimming pool is to be built in the municipality of Stuhr, near Bremen, Germany. The municipal council passed the building resolution at the end of February, the planning application is currently being prepared. Over 4,500 square meters of gross floor space will be used to create a wide range of facilities that will provide space for both sporting and leisure activities. A multi-purpose pool with six 25-metre lanes and a diving facility with one- and three-meter diving boards, a 125-square-meter teaching pool with a lifting floor, a warm pool measuring around 50-square-meters and a paddling pool for the youngest children with a toddler slide and water jets are planned.

A separable multifunctional/lounge area is to be created in the foyer, which will be equipped with a small kitchenette where food and drinks can be cooled or warmed up in a microwave. The area can be used by clubs or for children’s birthday parties, for example. Furthermore, attention was paid to sustainability when planning the pool: Heat is to be supplied via air heat pumps and an LWP booster at peak load times, so that the pool will be heated with 87 percent renewable energy. In addition, a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof of the indoor swimming pool and the adjoining wing will be given a green roof. There are also plans for a covered bicycle parking facility with a PV system and charging facilities as well as two charging points for electric cars.

Krieger Architekten are responsible for the project as general planners, while the company convis oversees project management. The municipality of Stuhr is expected to operate the indoor pool. A total of over 23 million euros net will be invested in the project. Initial preparatory work is due to start next year. Completion of the indoor pool is planned for early 2028. ■
