New Safety Scenario in the Risk Factory Limburg-Noord
(eap) At the Risk Factory experience center in the Dutch region of Limburg-Noord, students and senior citizens can learn in a fun way how to act in risk situations in the area of health and safety. “Learning by experiencing” is the credo of the Risk Factory. Interested parties go through scenarios such as “Fire Escape”, “Calling 112”, “Positive Health” and “Dealing with Peer Pressure”. Most recently, the scenario “Water Safety” was opened, in which visitors learn how to act in case of high water and floods. The scenario was realized together with the Dutch company Lagotronics Projects, which created a pre-show using sound effects of thunderstorms and rain, flickering lights and lighting (strobe effect) to simulate a rising storm.
Lia Roefs, provincial director and chair of administrative control for the Limburg Water Safety and Space Program said: “It’s wonderful to see us working together as an organization to make this scenario a reality. This is a great first step for the “Water Safety and Space Limburg (WRL)” program to raise awareness about water and safety in Limburg. This remains an important issue for years to come, as we will increasingly have to deal with extreme weather conditions. We really need each other to limit the impact of flooding.” ■
