The Netherlands: Animal Welfare Foundations Strengthen Focus on Edutainment

The two Dutch animal welfare foundations SOS Dolfijn Foundation and The Leeuw Foundation, which strive for the protection of marine mammals and big cats through targeted educative initiatives, amongst other things, are expanding their respective visitor centre locations with new edutainment experiences this year. In cooperation with Lagotronics Projects, five interactive stations will be realised in the new educational whale sanctuary of the SOS Dolfijn Foundation at the Landgoed Hoenderdaell estate. Through state-of-the-art audio-visual technologies, visitors will be able to experience what it is like to observe whales at sea, and they also learn how they can save an animal that has washed up on a beach. In addition, an interactive floor projection, an interactive touchscreen table and a cinema will be installed with which the organization wants to teach visitors more about the lives of and saving cetaceans in a fun and impressive way.

The Leeuw Foundation, whose sanctuary is also located on the estate, has commissioned Lagotronics with an interactive cinema and a quiz, in which up to six people can compete with each other as players to test their knowledge about big cats. The Hoenderdaell estate in Anna Paulownapolder (province of Noord-Holland) also includes a zoo, making it a popular destination for families and animal enthusiasts. (eap)
