Next Step for Therme Manchester Project
(eap) Therme Manchester, which is being realised by the Therme Group in cooperation with the Peel Group in Manchester’s TraffordCity leisure and retail complex, has reached another milestone in its development. Therme Manchester has received approval from Trafford Council for its “Section 73 Design Amendment”. The amended plans include more energy-efficient systems such as heat pumps. In addition, the design of the spa is to be optimised in terms of the use of glass, steel and concrete in order to offer future visitors to the spa expansive views of the surrounding area. Accessibility is also to be improved through the redesign with a drop-off point on “Phoenix Way”. The existing routes for buses, taxis and car parks on “Mercury Way” and the footpaths and cycle paths between the “Bridgewater Canal” and the “Metrolink” are to be retained.

This development will stand as a beacon of wellbeing and innovation, contributing to the cultural and social fabric of Greater Manchester. Local contractors are delivering the initial works, and we will remain committed to contributing significantly to the community and the local economy. Our pedigree is to focus on design detail and technical delivery schedules traditionally resulting in swift 24-to-30-month construction timelines, Therme Manchester is a complex large-scale project which is progressing well, so it is too early to announce a precise opening date,” comments Prof David Russell, CEO of Therme Group UK.
James Whittaker, Managing Director of Peel Waters adds: “It is great news that this planning amendment has been approved as we can now all focus on the delivery of this phenomenal and much anticipated resort in TraffordCity. TraffordCity is all about bringing unique and experiential leisure concepts together in one accessible location; Therme Manchester will not just be a gamechanger for Greater Manchester but for the Northwest and the UK. The resort will offer something which has never been seen before in the UK and we are looking forward to continuing to work closely with Therme Group to deliver this exceptional offering.“
The approval goes hand in hand with the start of preparatory work on the construction site, which includes the demolition of the existing concrete slabs that are to be retained and reused during construction. The construction site hoarding, utilities work and offices have already been set up. ■
