Opening of MSG Sphere in Las Vegas
(eap) Already in summer, a first show staging was presented in a festive atmosphere on the world’s largest LED “screen” with a surface of some 580,000-square-foot (approx. 54,000- square-meters) – the spherical outer shell of the MSG Sphere building in Las Vegas. Recently, Sphere was officially opened with a concert given by the Irish rock band U2. The world’s largest sphere building is a unique event location that can accommodate up to 20,000 people. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, Sphere offers a special space for concerts, film presentations and sport events, among others.
In the entrance area of the building, guests are greeted by five robots called “Aura” who interact with visitors and answer questions about Sphere. “Aura’s role at Sphere marks a truly innovative application of robots, providing guests from around the globe with an opportunity to move into the future of entertainment and interact within a new technological frontier,” said David Dibble, CEO of MSG Ventures, a division of Sphere Entertainment. “Our vision with every aspect of Sphere is to transform the way people experience live events, and with Aura we are pushing the boundaries of how robotics can be used to enhance our guests’ journey through the venue.”
Sphere’s outer shell recently featured an initial campaign from film studio DreamWorks Animations, promoting the new animated film “Trolls Band Together”. ■
