Over 25M Euro for Large-Scale Pool Project in Warburg
(eap) A new swimming pool complex is being built in the Hanseatic town of Warburg (central Germany), comprising an indoor pool as a completely new building, to which the existing outdoor pool in the town will be connected as an associated outdoor area following extensive renovation work. More than 25 million euros are being invested in this major project by the Warburg Public Utility Company, with around 16 million euros coming from EU and federal subsidies.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the new Waldbad (“Forest Pool”) – the name of the future swimming park – took place yesterday. Around 2.5 years of construction time are now planned to build the new indoor pool and renovate the outdoor pool. The indoor area will be divided into two areas, “sports” and “leisure”. In the sports area, there will be a 25-metre pool with six lanes and a training pool with a moving floor, while the leisure area will also have a 25-metre pool, a training pool with a moving floor, as well as a diving facility and a children’s paddling pool.
The adjoining outdoor area will provide an adventure pool with a diving platform and a slide. There will also be a children’s paddling pool outside, as well as a sunbathing lawn, supplemented by a terrace and a volleyball court. The architect plans for the new Waldbad come from KRIEGER Architekten | Ingenieure based in Velbert.
“[...] With the new Waldbad, we are securing the future of swimming in Warburg and, on the one hand, can optimally carry out our mandatory task of school swimming. We are also significantly improving the attractiveness for recreational and club swimmers and enabling them to learn to swim safely in the region,” says Warburg’s Mayor Tobias Scherf, looking forward to the realization of this major project. The completion and opening of the new indoor and outdoor pool complex is planned for 2027. ■
