(eap) Parque del Café, located in the Colombian municipality of Montenegro (Departamento de Quindío), recently opened its new “Avix” roller coaster. This ride, inspired by the country’s diversity of birds, is the world’s second installation of the “Infinity Inverted” coaster model from German manufacturer Gerstlauer Amusement Rides. This still new type of roller coaster has been operating in TusenFryd, Norway, since spring 2023 (read also our cover story in EAP 4/2023).

The maximum speed during the ride is around 72 km/h, with maximum forces of 3.5 G acting on the guests during acceleration. The track layout has no inversions, but a chain lift hill and elements such as an over-banked curve.

“Avix” complements the existing range of coasters at the park, which opened in 1995 and includes three other rollercoasters (including the Euro-Fighter “Kráter” and the custom family coaster “Yippe”, both also from Gerstlauer). There are also several other family-friendly rides, as well as a wide range of entertainment and information on the culture of coffee growing in the region. The 125-hectare park was founded by the National Association of Coffee Producers and the Committee of Coffee Farmers of the Department of Quindío in order to present and experience the tradition of coffee cultivation in Colombia in an exciting way. The park now offers more than 35 classic and cultural attractions. ■
