Possible Plans for Universal Studios Theme Park in England
(eap) Universal Destinations and Experiences is said to have purchased a plot of around 200 hectares in Stewartby (Bedford), England, around 70 km north of London, according to British media reports citing a company spokesperson. The company would currently be in the early stages of feasibility studies for a possible theme park resort. Strategically quite conceivable – the site in question has ideal road and rail connections and is within easy reach of London’s Luton Airport.
With the renaming of the former Universal Parks & Resorts business unit to Universal Destinations & Experiences this spring, the parent company Comcast announced that it would focus its further strategic development on the creation of new and innovative entertainment offerings worldwide. While the Epic Universe park in Orlando (Florida) and other new leisure destinations in Las Vegas (Nevada) and Texas are currently being developed (see EAP news from 12 Jan 23), the creation of a theme park resort in Europe appears to be a likely further goal for Universal, following the opening of Universal Studios Beijing in 2021. ■
