USA: Universal Parks & Resorts Announces Two Major New Projects to be Created in Las Vegas and Texas

Universal Parks & Resorts has announced two major projects at once. First, the group has announced the construction of a new horror attraction at Las Vegas’ AREA 15 entertainment complex, and second, the opening of a new family theme park in Frisco, Texas.

Universal Parks & Resorts, known for their “Halloween Horror Nights” at its parks, is now planning the first permanent horror project outside its own theme parks. Set to find space in the new 20 acre (eight hectares) expansion of AREA 15, the 110,000 square-foot (10,000 square-meters) horror experience will bring to life characters from classic horror films such as “Frankenstein,” “Dracula,” “The Mummy” and “The Wolf Man,” as well as Universal’s more recent films. The horror attraction is intended to be experienced not only at Halloween, but throughout the year. However, depending on the season, events and changes will take place so that visitors can constantly expect something new. In addition to the scary horror events, gastronomy offers and scary bars at night will be part of the location. “Universal is known for our ability to deliver original, highly-themed and terrifying horror entertainment experience for millions of fans every year – We are excited to give our global fanbase yet another way to get scared and have fun with fear in the heart of Las Vegas, the perfect place for this type of unique concept,” announces President, New Ventures, Universal Parks & Resorts, Page Thompson. Winston Fisher, Chief Executive Officer at AREA15, adds: “AREA15 curates a constellation of best-in-class experience. Universal’s never-been-done-before concept will be a perfect fit because our guests know they can expect fresh, exciting entertainment at AREA15.”

In addition to the spooky horror experience, Universal wants to appeal to its younger fans with its planned new theme park facility in Frisco. The amusement park is going to be smaller and designed differently than previous Universal parks. The company has acquired a total of 97 acres (almost 40 hectares) of land in Frisco, which, in addition to family-friendly attractions, shows and restaurants, would also provide space for the construction of a park-owned hotel and further expansion of the park grounds. “We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the city of Frisco and Mayor Cheney as we work to bring this innovative, new concept to life designed specifically for a younger generation of Universal fans,” said Page Thompson, “We think North Texas is the perfect place to launch this unique park for families given its growing popularity within this part of the country.” (eap)
