RitterRost Magic Park Welcomes New Animal Species
(eap) The RitterRost Magic Park in Verden, Germany, recently welcomed a new animal species to its park. This is a group of twelve Barbary macaques, which comes from the Serengeti Park Hodenhagen. “Our new park residents mark another milestone for us! Their home is the Atlas Mountains in Morocco and Algeria. Since they play an important role in mythology and many fairy tales from 1001 Nights, they are a very good thematic fit for us,” explains Bastian Lampe, managing director of the theme park.
Barbary macaques are classified as highly endangered on the red list of the World Conservation Organization IUCN. By keeping these animals, the RitterRost Magic Park wants to contribute to the preservation of the species. The monkeys are kept in a forest-like enclosure that is designed to assimilate the animals’ natural environment. “We want to give our guests an understanding of the Barbary macaques’ way of life, raise their awareness of the protection of endangered species and sensitize future generations to the importance of species conservation,” says Lampe. ■
