SeaWorld San Antonio Celebrates Opening of Catapult Falls
(eap) Last Saturday, SeaWorld San Antonio celebrated the opening of the world’s first Launched Flume Coaster: “Catapult Falls”. It is the first white water ride to feature an acceleration element, which was introduced by manufacturer Intamin in 2022 (see EAP 6/2022). This catapults the boats over a small hill at a speed of around 33 km/h in a straight line. In addition, a lift that transports the boats to a height of 17 meters is followed by a 53-degree descent, making the ride the “world’s steepest flume coaster”.
“SeaWorld San Antonio is thrilled to open Catapult Falls, the world’s first launched flume coaster which also boasts the steepest drop in a ride of its kind,” said Jodi Davenport, SeaWorld San Antonio Park President. “The highly anticipated flume coaster is the perfect family ride for our guests, giving them another way to cool off at SeaWorld. We know it will be a hit with pass members and first-time guests.”
Catapult Falls was built on the former site of the “Texas Splashdown” attraction, which was the first ride to open at a SeaWorld park in 1991. According to the park, visitors with a keen eye might find hidden surprises that pay homage to the historic splashdown attraction. ■
