(eap) A new public swimming pool is currently being built in Norway’s capital Oslo. The swimming facility is set to become the largest in the city and thus a new local hub for swimming. The Tøyenbadet is being built in the Grünerløkka district, on the border of Oslo’s old town, where the outdated old Tøyenbadet was located until 2019. The new, modern facility will cover a net functional area of around 16,000 square meters and will consist of an indoor facility with four pools, an outdoor pool as well as a multi-purpose hall for indoor ball sports.

In the indoor swimming pool, guests will have access to a 50-metre sports, a warm water, a diving and a family pool measuring around 390 square meters the latter. In addition, bathers will be able to enjoy a diving tower and a 50-metre-long stainless-steel slide with time display from wiegand.waterrides. Also, there will be a diving platform and a stainless-steel slide in the outdoor pool. The slide here will be buried in the slope and will be over 110 meters long. Furthermore, there will be around 600 square meters of water surface with separate areas for family, swimming and children’s pools for swimming and splashing around. In addition, there will be an outdoor pool measuring around 60 square meters, which will be open all year round.

The municipal company Oslobygg KF is responsible for the construction. The project involves the international company Sweco as project and construction manager, the building contractors AF Gruppen, the architects and design group Asplan Viak AS as well as ENWA Badeanlegg AS, who are responsible for the water treatment and steel pools. Once completed, the bath will be operated by Bymiljøetaten (the Municipal Environment Agency), which expects the soft-opening to begin this fall. An official opening date is yet to be announced. ■
