(eap) Visitors to the Mad Madrid Artes Digitales exhibition space in Madrid, Spain, can currently immerse themselves in the history of the world’s most famous passenger ship – the Titanic. “The Legend of the Titanic – The Immersive Exhibition” uses modern technology, music, theatrical and sensory effects to take visitors on board and let them experience the tragic night of 14-15 April 1912.

The exhibition begins with a recreation of the dock in Southampton, where visitors are greeted by Captain “Smith” using Augmented Reality. Through the corridors of the third-class cabins, they reach the exhibition room dedicated to the Spanish passengers of the Titanic. They then enter a Virtual Reality (VR) room. There, visitors will find a tribute to the Titanic’s orchestra. Each scene represents one of the songs from the repertoire that was played on board. The classic pieces were reinterpreted by Dutch composer René Merkelbach and recorded together with an orchestra of more than 50 musicians.

Also, there is the “Immersive Room”, in which images are projected onto an area of 1,200 square metres, taking visitors from the construction of the Titanic to the voyage and the tragic disaster. The international studio Sila Sveta was responsible for this immersive room. Furthermore, there is a “Metaverse room”, which contains interactive elements as well as 5D sensory experiences, such as simulated odours and a realistic reconstruction of the various classes and areas of the ship. Visitors are immersed in the depths of the ocean to discover the Titanic in its current state, until the ship comes to life as if travelling through time, allowing them to visit all the rooms one by one. The VR technology and content come from VR Coaster, who have installed their largest “Yullbe Go” system (a product from MackNeXT & VR Coaster) to date. A total of 45 people can immerse themselves in the VR world at the same time, enabling a capacity of 270 people per hour. ■
