US: Surf Lakes Plans World's Largest Surf Park in Austin, Texas
Australian company Surf Lake Holdings is planning its largest surf park to date in Austin, Texas. The young company, owned by former mining engineer and amateur surfer Aaron Trevis, manufactures systems that mechanically generate waves for surfing. With these installations, the founder pursues the vision of bringing the experience of surfing to as many places in the world as possible, so that the fun of surfing can be pursued regardless of location. Last year, the company announced its partnership with China Wave Sports (siehe EAP-News vom 05.07.21) to further expand in the Chinese market. The company is now planning its largest project, called “Pura Vida“, in the capital city of Texas not far from the city‘s airport. The almost 12-acre (4,850 m²) surf lake is to be embedded in a 400-acre (1.6 km²) landscape consisting of a beach, promenades, restaurants, hotels, stores and accommodations. The surf park is expected to further enhance the city‘s appeal to both locals and tourists and create its own Pura Vida community. According to the company, groundbreaking could take place as early as in the middle of next year. With capital expenditures of around $1.3 billion, Pura Vida would then be the largest integrated wave pool project on the globe to date according to the developer. (eap)
