USA: A Journey into Space – “Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex” Opens Today
As of today, guests to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (Merritt Island, Florida) can experience the new “Gateway: The Deep Space Launch Complex” attraction. Visitors can learn more about the latest space technology and get a glimpse of what the future of space travel may look like, for example, in the area of commercial flight offerings. In addition to numerous exhibits such as auxiliary rockets or landing capsules, the new attraction also offers guests to experience a virtual journey into space in the “Spaceport KSC” 4D motion theater (visitors have to be at least 99 centimeters (39 inches) tall to ride).
The motion theater’s “flight plan” offers a total of four space travel experiences to choose from: “Red Planet”, as the name suggests, enables a journey to Mars. “Daring Explorers” takes visitors to the edge of our solar system with a flight toward Jupiter and Saturn. “Cosmic Wonders” offers a look at cosmic sights such as the so-called Horsehead Nebula – a red-glowing emission nebula that is part of the star constellation Orion. The fourth experience, “Uncharted Worlds”, gives visitors a view into the Trappist-1 planetary system, which is some 40 light-years away. The associated “Observation Bay” allows guests who are sensitive to motion experiences to enjoy the total experience without motion. (eap)
