USA: Samsung to Equip Six Flags Coasters with VR Technology
As the US-based Six Flags Entertainment Corporation recently announced, the theme park operator has entered a marketing partnership with the technology company Samsung, which appoints Samsung as Six Flags’ “Official Technology Partner”. In the course of the agreement, Samsung will update nine Six Flags rollercoasters with its “Gear VR” technology by summer. “This remarkable technology is a definite game-changer for theme park rides and represents everything our brand stands for – delivering the most thrilling and innovative rides and attractions in the world,” says John Duffey, new President and CEO of Six Flags (cf. EAP News from March 3, 2016).
The first VR coaster to be launched will be Six Flags Over Texas’ “Shock Wave”, opening March 10. Further rides, on which passengers will have the possibility to wear a Samsung Gear VR headset, will include “Dare Devil Dive” at Six Flags Over Georgia, “The New Revolution” at Six Flags Magic Mountain, “Ninja” at Six Flags St. Louis, “Steamin’ Demon” at The Great Escape and “Goliath” at the Montreal-based La Ronde park. In all of these parks, visitors will have to save planet Earth from an alien invasion during the VR adventure.
Furthermore, passengers of the three Superman themed coasters located in the San Antonio (Texas), Massachusetts and Maryland-based parks will also soon have the opportunity to experience a thrilling VR adventure. Alongside Superman, they will have to win a battle against villain Lex Luthor and his army.
