Zurich Zoo Cable Car Still Thwarted

(eap) The joy on the side of the Zurich Zoo cableway project team following the ruling of the Administrative Court of the Canton of Zurich, which confirmed the decision of the lower court and ruled that the cantonal design plan was lawful, was short-lived for the time being. Opponents of the infrastructure project are appealing the ruling to the Federal Supreme Court. “It’s a shame that even after 15 years, the urgency and importance of the zoo cable car as the perfect and most sustainable public transport connection to Zurich Zoo is still not recognized,” says Andreas Hohl, Delegate of the Zoo Seilbahn AG Board of Directors.

The opponents are criticizing the Administrative Court’s ruling because the deficiencies in the transport concept and in nature and environmental protection have still not been rectified and are lodging an appeal with the Federal Supreme Court. “After we launched a new zoo cable car project in 2018, in which we fundamentally revised precisely these two points, we cannot understand this appeal to the next instance,” evaluates Andreas Hohl, assessing the current situation. This will further delay the commissioning of the cableway lastly planned for 2028. ■
