Belgium: Plopsa Station Antwerp Officially Opened

In the presence of mayor Bart De Wever (m.), Studio 100 co-founder Hans Bourlon (l.) and Plopsa CEO Steve Van den Kerkhof (r.), last weekend saw the official opening of Plopsa Group's newest indoor park, located in the Belgian city of Antwerp. The park, named Plopsa Station Antwerp and located in Antwerp's train station building, is the former Comics Station Antwerp, which opened in 2017 (see our report in EAP 4/2017) and was sold to the Plopsa Group at the end of 2019 (cf. EAP news of 19 Oct 2020).

“This weekend we’re open as a ‘test opening’, then we’ll close the park for a week to fine-tune everything based on our findings from this first weekend and then to open permanently and continuously from Saturday 30 October, with the start of the autumn holidays. We expect 200,000 to 250,000 visitors a year. What’s more, we’re already seeing a lot of requests from companies for family and customer events,” says Plopsa CEO Steve Van den Kerkhof.

The project represents a six-million-euro investment on the part of the Plopsa Group and adds what is already the ninth park to the operator's portfolio. While a few of the park’s attractions had to make way after the takeover, new comic characters (from Studio 100) and rides have also been added to the now total of 15 visitor attractions. (eap)
