Canada: Malahat Skywalk – Vancouver Island’s Coming New Tourist Attraction

Located in the south of Vancouver Island, a new tourist attraction called Malahat Skywalk is currently under development. The walkway will be a 650 metres long wooden pathway through an Arbutus forest leading to a spiral lookout. On a platform 40 metres above the ground visitors will be able to enjoy a panoramic view over the area‘s nature. The pathway will be equipped with numerous interactive educational stations in order to give visitors the opportunity to learn more about the local Malahat Nation culture, one of the indigenous first nation tribes, which are still located on the island. The skywalk’s ticketing system will be provided by US-American Gateway Ticketing Systems company.

David Greenfield, principal of A.Spire by Nature, the company which developed the Malahat Skywalk concept, comments: “The Malahat Skywalk will offer opportunities for locals and visitors alike to immerse themselves in local storytelling, cultural celebration and natural interpretive education as well as the stunning natural landscape and vistas of the Cowichan Valley and Finlayson Arm.“

To complete the skywalk experience, a shop, a café, a playground and a picnick area are also planned. (eap)
