China’s Wanda Group Opens First Outdoor Theme Park – Xishuangbanna International Resort
On 26 September 2015 China’s Dalian Wanda Group opened its first outdoor theme park in Jinghong, capital of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province, China. Following the opening of Wanda Movie Park in Wuhan at the end of 2014 (cp. EAP, issue 2/2015), the all-new Wanda Xishuangbanna International Resort is the second theme park facility of the Chinese group. The 5.3 square kilometer large resort includes a theme park, a water park, an international stage show, a six-star and two four-star hotels, a lakeside street bar, a Wanda Plaza and a hospital. The investment volume runs at 16 billion CNY (2.24 billion EUR).
The theme park features five major sections – “Butterfly Kingdom”, “Jungle Adventure”, “Ancient Tea Horse Road”, “Fisherman’s Wharf” and the water park. The latter houses a large wave pool with a beach area and numerous waterslides. The resort’s 1,200-seat Dai Show Theatre blends a mixture of Xishuangbanna culture, stunt performances and high-tech stage facilities to create a trailblazing theatrical stage show experience. More about Wanda Group’s first outdoor theme park can be found in one of our upcoming magazine issues. (eap)
