GB/Czech Republic: First Madame Tussauds Franchise Announced – Brand Comes to Prague
British Merlin Entertainments operating group announced this week that it has signed its first franchise agreement for its “Madame Tussauds” midway brand. Franchise partner is the Czech Wax Museum – Svět Zábavy company, which owns and operates a wax figure cabinet in Prague and will add the Madame Tussauds brand as part of a multi-million-Euro refurbishment planned for its attraction. The opening of the world’s first Madame Tussauds franchise is still scheduled for this year.
“We are delighted to be launching our first Madame Tussauds franchise in Prague, with an experienced local partner. Following a successful opening later this year, Merlin will be looking at other Madame Tussauds franchise opportunities around the globe, in markets where the brand is not already present. Future partners are already being identified,” comments Chris Scurrah, Franchise Director, Merlin Entertainments. The first plans of the operating group to open a Madame Tussauds in Prague date back to 2012, but have not been realized since then (cf. EAP News f. Dec 18th, 2012).
Zdenek Kocik, Director of Svět Zábavy, is delighted about the franchise agreement: “Work is advanced on the new attraction and we look forward to bringing the Madame Tussauds brand to Prague and making it a huge success.” (eap)
