Germany: Happy Birthday Fächerbad Karlsruhe!

In order to create more sport offerings in Waldstadt, the Sport- und Schwimmclub Karlsruhe (SSC), the Bürgerverein Waldstadt, the KSV Rintheim-Waldstadt and the Polizeisportverein Karlsruhe (PSV) joined forces in the early 1980s and pursued the idea of opening a new indoor pool. The idea then became reality on April 28, 1982, with the opening of the Karlsruhe-located Fächerbad, which is now celebrating its 40th anniversary.

About seven years after the opening, a sauna area was added – which is currently being renovated, including the development of two new sauna houses. The renovated sauna area is scheduled to open in 2023. Also added in recent years were new changing room wings, the pool area with a retractable roof and a new course pool with a lifting floor. In 40 years of operation, the Fächerbad, which is a regular venue for national and international swimming competitions, has recorded around 13 million visitors. (eap)
