Germany: HolstenTherme Plans Major Expansion with “Paradise Island” Project – Doubling Existing Area

Northern Germany’s HolstenTherme in Kaltenkirchen (Schleswig-Holstein), which celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, has big plans. Under the project name “ParadiesInsel” (ParadiseIsland), the wellness and spa complex is planning an extensive expansion that will double the Caribbean vacation landscape with an additional area of 1,980 square meters. A water area of 260 square meters as well as many palm trees will be part of the new amenities. Windows up to seven meters high will bring in light and sun to the ParadiseIsland, with generous relaxation areas on two levels and a new restaurant offering. The building permit for the new area has already been approved, so the planning phase is complete and now the preliminary work begins. The tender process will start in the spring. The start of construction is expected before summer – the completion should then take place about one and a half years later, according to the managing director of HolstenTherme, Stefan Hinkeldey.

The project will also focus on sustainability: Highly efficient energy recovery systems in both water and room air technology and the recycling of consumable water are mandatory. A combined heat and power plant and additional regenerative sources for the energy supply will also contribute to a sustainable operation in the future. The construction costs are estimated at twelve million euros. The project is being implemented by the architectural firm Geising + Böker.
