Germany: New Sauna to Be Built at Fächerbad Karlsruhe
Due to renovation works in the sauna area, some areas of the Fächerbad in Karlsruhe (Baden-Wuerttemberg) are currently only accessible for guests to a limited extent. In the future, visitors will find a renovated sauna house with a tepidarium, a steam bath, a salt cabin, a relaxation room and a reading room. The new sauna house will be built in the outdoor area of the bathing complex, which will be redesigned for this purpose. “A completely new unity will be created through a uniform design language and materiality of the houses,” according to the facility’s own statement.
In total, two new houses are being built here and the existing sauna house will be integrated, while the old relaxation house will be demolished. On the first floor of the existing sauna area, which needs to be renovated, a small massage room is to be created in addition to the restrooms and shower area. A new textile sauna area will also be implemented here – as an addition to the services offered by the sports pool. The entire sauna area will be barrier-free in the future. The architectural firm of Rossmann + Partner was commissioned with the planning and supervision of the renovation.
In 2019, the Fächerbad was able to record 380,000 guests – the aim is to permanently exceed the 380,000-visitor mark. “We can achieve this with an attractive sauna area, the sauna landscape is getting on in years and we are happy to be able to redesign it in order to continue to be able to create an interesting offer for our guests,” says authorized officer Jens Freiseisen.
