(eap) Since 1986, the Säntispark in Abtwil (Canton of St. Gallen), which belongs to Migros Ostschweiz, has been a mixed-use center with a shopping center, four-star hotel and adventure & wellness pool, offering both locals and tourists attractive leisure activities. At the end of 2016, a new slide tower with eight slides was added to the pool world (see EAP 1/2017). Now, another modernization of the bathing area is being planned, in the course of which, among other things, three new slides from wiegand.waterrides, further water attractions in the outdoor area and a new restaurant in the pool area are envisioned to be implemented – the building application has already been submitted.

“When we built the Slide World in 2016, we already planned for the option of adding more slides one day. Now we want to implement this plan”, explains Michael Selb, Head of Säntispark's leisure area. The existing ladies’ sauna area will be completely rebuilt and will be available to all guests in the future. “We will continue to offer one day a week when the area is reserved for women only”, Selb emphasizes. A complete renovation is planned for the so-called outdoor pool, which includes bubble loungers, a whitewater river and a large whirlpool, including new water attractions and the enlargement of the flow channel. Due to an increased demand in recent years, the catering offer for bathers is also planned to be expanded. An extension, which will house a new restaurant and be accessible from the wave pool, will provide for this. The new pool restaurant will be supplied from the kitchen of the Migros restaurant. The existing kiosk “Beizli” in the bathing complex will be transformed into a self-service kiosk, which will no longer offer hot meals in the future.

If everything goes according to plan, the renovation work should take place during ongoing operations between spring and fall 2024. As early as fall 2023, a photovoltaic system is to be installed on the roof of the world of slides, via which the Säntispark will generate some of its required electricity on its own in the future. ■
