(eap) Following the grand opening of the new Zwemcentrum de Welle public pool in Drachten (Netherlands) last Thursday, many guests came to explore the versatile swimming and slide fun offer over the weekend.

“We have worked incredibly hard to realize this beautiful swimming center and it is fantastic to celebrate the opening with such an enthusiastic group of visitors who were able to use the new swimming pool immediately. It was great to see all these happy faces,” says Evert Jan Siderius, Director of the operating company Sportbedrijf. “On Thursday, we celebrated the wonderful result of this project together with representatives of the municipality, the province and all the partners involved. It was a special moment to reflect on the collaboration, commitment and dedication that made it all possible. Now it’s time to make this project a great success!”

The go-ahead for the construction of the swimming centre was given in September 2020 – work on the pool had been underway since March 2023 and was completed in December last year. The companies involved in the construction of Zwemcentrum de Welle were Pranger-Rosier, Bouwgroep Dijkstra Draisma and Lotec Zwembadtechniek. In the new swimming centre, visitors find a 50-meter sports pool, a wave pool, a children’s pool with play elements as well as the following attractions: A 100-meter-long funnel slide with light and sound effects, an open family slide with three lanes that invites duelling, a current channel, a 30-meter-long aqua course from Wibit Sports and a six-meter-high water climbing wall. A spray park with interactive elements in the outdoor area is also to be added to the pool this spring. ■
