O2 SURFTOWN MUC Uses AI for Photo & Video Capturing
(eap) Following the successful opening event of O2 SURFTOWN MUC with over 14,000 surf enthusiasts from all over the world, surfers can now not only ride the waves (produced by the Endless Surf system from WhiteWater in a 10,000 square meter pool) in Germany’s first surf park, but also benefit from the use of artificial intelligence in the facility (read all about the new surf park in our cover story in EAP 4/24).
Capturing the perfect moment on the wave in a photo or video is often a particular challenge when surfing. Surftown solves this problem with an AI solution in collaboration with Flowstate. The technology films and photographs each wave automatically and requires no additional equipment or manual intervention. The surfers are accurately detected by AI between their sets and tracked via object tracking. After the surf session, each user can (for a fee) view their content – 1080p videos in portrait and landscape format from different camera angles – on the online platform. “Our guests can concentrate fully on surfing while our AI system records and analyzes every wave surfed and provides professionally edited videos and photos around 15 minutes after the session,” explains Chris Boehm-Tettelbach, founder and Managing Director of O2 SURFTOWN MUC.
The new platform also functions as a social network: users can individually decide whether their sessions remain private or can be viewed publicly, and can share, like and comment on experiences on Flowstate. Surfers from all over the world can also network here, export their experiences and share them on social media. “As a leading company in the creation of surf content, we are setting new standards for automated content solutions with Flowstate. We are therefore delighted to be partnering with O2 SURFTOWN MUC, which is also setting new standards in the field of wave pools,” says Luke Wallace, CEO of Flowstate. In addition to Surftown near Munich, the system is already being used at a total of four other facilities in Australia and the USA.
