(eap) Ten months after the tragic fire at Liseberg’s Oceana water park, reconstruction work has reached an important milestone. The demolition work has now been completed and, following a favourable decision by the Liseberg Board of Directors, work on the completion of a new water world – which is scheduled to be reached in two years’ time – can now enter a new phase. As part of this, Liseberg has now also published new visualisations of the water park, which show the partially changed look of the slide tower.

“Among other things, we have opted to invest in new technology for the slides, to make them more fire retardant. We are also using this as an opportunity to opt for a lighter colour for the attraction tower, to ensure it fits in better with the surrounding cityscape,” explains Liseberg’s CEO Andreas Andersen.

The aim is to be able to open in around two years. However, the project is complex by nature and there are many different factors that could influence the timetable. The attraction tower at the southern end of the Oceana has been taking shape again for a few weeks now. Installation of the new glulam beams is scheduled to begin in February 2025 and the water attractions in the swimming pool area will be installed in the spring. If everything goes according to plan, the project should be completely weathertight by the end of the summer.

“Rounding off 2024 with such positive news is a great way to end the year. Oceana will be a key and highly-anticipated addition to Gothenburg’s already wide variety of experiences, strengthening the appeal of the region,” states Liseberg’s Chairman of the Board, Kurt Eliasson. ■
