(eap) Royal Caribbean International recently announced details of the second ship in the “Icon Class”. It will be named “Star of the Seas” and is scheduled to set sail for the first time in a year – on August 31, 2025. Like its predecessor, the “Icon of the Seas” (see EAP 1/2023), the Star of the Seas is also being built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland. The key data of the new gigaliner is also comparable to those of its predecessor. The ship will be a total of 364 meters (1,196 feet) long and 48 meters (159 feet) wide, offering space for up to 5,610 guests.

Those will be able to discover 18 guest decks, which are also familiar from the Icon of the Seas. These include the “Category 6” water park, which features family-friendly and thrill slides from manufacturer wiegand.waterrides. Also, there will be a FlowRider surf simulator, a high ropes and a mini-golf course, an escape room as well as the “AquaDome” with a wide range of shows. Among over 40 gastronomic offerings, visitors will find the new “Lincoln Park Supper Club”, a restaurant inspired by 1930s Chicago that combines modern interpretations of traditional American cuisine with live entertainment.

Departing from Port Canaveral (Florida), the Star of the Seas will embark on seven-night voyages from 2025. Among others, the ship will stop at the Royal Caribbean private island “Perfect Day at CocoCay” in the Bahamas. Furthermore, “Royal Beach Club Paradise”, the first Beach Club of the shipping company, is scheduled to open towards the end of 2025. ■
