Sweden: Liseberg Announces New Dark Ride – “Underland” to Open in 2020

Located in Gothenburg/Sweden, Liseberg amusement park yesterday announced the construction of a new dark ride attraction, slated to open at the beginning of the 2020 season as part of the 200 million SEK (approx. 19 million EUR) expansion of its “Kaninlandet” (Engl.: “Rabbit Land”) kids area. An amount of 150 million SEK (over 14 million EUR) of the total investment sum alone will flow into the new attraction, which will receive the name of “Underland”. The new family attraction will replace the former “Sagoslottet” (Engl.: “Fairytale Castle”) dark ride, which had been demolished in the course of the construction works for the new “Valkyria” dive coaster (opened in 2018, cf. EAP 5/18). In “Underland”, visitors will be able to discover the “secret underground world of the rabbits” in various scenes along a 190 meter long track. The ride will feature a total of 18 vehicles for four persons each, reaching a total capacity of 850 passengers per hour.

“With the introduction of Valkyria in 2018, we had to remove an old children’s Dark Ride, Sagoslottet. We promised our guests that we would replace this with something bigger and better. That’s what we are doing now. With the new dark ride Underland we will set new standards for this type of experience in Sweden,” says Andreas Andersen, CEO & President at Liseberg.

The park has developed the concept for "Underland" in partnership with British Quarry Fold Studio. The ride system for the new dark ride will be supplied by Italian manufacturer Gosetto, Dutch P&P Projects company has been commissioned with the theming. US-based LifeFormations will deliver the animatronics for the new attraction. (eap)
