Jenaer Bäder Swimming Pools Draw Positive Balance
(eap) With a total of 545,000 guests (2023: 433,000), Jenaer Bäder, who manage the public pools in the German city of Jena, can look back on a successful 2024. Despite a slight decline in visitor numbers at the GalaxSea leisure pool (244,000, 2023: 251,000), the attractiveness of the public pools was overall increased – primarily thanks to rising visitor numbers at the outdoor pools and the new Schwimmparadies Jena, as is being stated. While the outdoor pools recorded an increase compared to 2023 (130,000) with a total of 145,000 guests, the Schwimmparadies Jena welcomed 156,000 swimmers in its first full season. An highlight for the swimming pool was the certification of its 50-metre pool suitable for competitions by the German Swimming Association in “Category B”. This makes the public pool the only swimming pool in this category in Thuringia and one of only nine in Germany.
In addition to various indoor and outdoor events, the focus for Jena’s pools in 2025 will be on attracting visitors to the outdoor pools. The differentiation of the outdoor pools is to be advanced further – while the Ostbad is to become a place for action and family activities, the Südbad will put a focus on relaxation and nature experience offers. Plans for the remodelling of the GalaxSea are also set to continue. The leisure and family pool is to be renovated and remodelled by 2027. As part of the renovation works, plans include the creation of a new toddler area and a slide tower with a separate landing pool as well as the enclosure of the outdoor pool and a redesign of the sauna area. ■
